Changes

Greetings,

Some things:

1) I am now represented by the fine folks at Langley Creative. We are working together on some new promotional materials so expect some new images soon. A couple new pieces, as well as some sketchbook images can be found on their site here.

2) I have recently moved to Chicago. I've been in the Lakeview area for just over a month now, and my address is 1700 W Nelson St. Chicago IL 60657 for all of those who are interested.

3) A new website is on it's way. Expect new work, more sketchbook pages, and a cleaner look in a couple of weeks.

I have been trying to find some open figure drawing in the city and came across the Brimstone Drawing Club the other day. Here are some ballpoint pen drawings from the session as well as a drawing of my room mate/fellow artist/gal-pal whose name is Kaitlin Howard.

Show & Tell

I will be participating in two shows in May and June.

'Rich Kelly Draws on Life' will be at the 3G Gallery in Pittsburgh. It is a selection of published work as well as some personal pieces that originated in my sketchbook. The opening reception will be Friday, April 25, at 6 PM. Directions and more information can be found here. It will be up until May 21.

I will also be participating in a show at the Chapterhouse Gallery in Philadelphia with Matthew Smith, a very talented artist from Brooklyn. The gallery is located at 620 S. 9th St. and the opening reception will be Friday, May 9, at 7 PM. Their website is here and this one will be up for the entire months of May and June.

Between the two shows I will be displaying about 20 pieces so if you're on either side of Pennsylvania be sure to swing by and check them out.

Thanks,
Rich

Album Art

Here are some concept designs for the New York based band, The Kiss-off. They didn't go with either of them, but I liked the way they turned out.

To Rich, By Anthony

Lately I've been working in my sketchbook as much as possible, trying to experiment with different media. I try to have the book on me at all times, drawing anything and everything in my path. I also was able to do some figure drawing the other day so here are some resulting ball point pen drawings.

This week I have been a "guest speaker" at my mother's 3rd grade library classes. They have been learning about the Caldecott Award so I have been talking about some of my favorite Caldecott books (Hey Al, The Funny Little Woman..) showing the kids my work and having them draw portraits of their friends. Luckily, a few of the classes had an odd number of students so I was able to pair up with and draw two of the little rugrats, LT and Anthony. At the end of the session we traded pictures and posted below are their drawings of me. I found it amusing that they both noticed I hadn't shaved in a couple days and included my whiskers in their drawings.
